カリフォルニア中部に向かう。

had to pick up some parts from a person located in a desert area so we decided to take our small bikes with us and ride in the nature but ended up digging holes in the sandy wash to rescue our van before we unload the bikes 😭

砂漠地帯に住んでいる人のところにパーツを取りに行くことになったので、ついでに砂漠で遊んで帰ろうということになって張り切ってオートバイ積んできたはいいけど、遊ぶ前にチャボバンが砂に埋まっちゃった。では、まずは救助活動から。掘る。

ひたすら掘る。掘って石を敷きつめる。

back up a little bit. dig. put some rocks. and repeat. at one point we almost gave up but we kept on and finally got out from THIS bed of quick sand but there were another one or two ahead of us. so we just careened through and somehow made it to the hard surface area. strangely enough, it was fun after all😸 then, we enjoyed a gorgeous trail ride in the sand afterwards. 

ちょっとさがっては、再び掘る。石、敷きつめる。繰り返す。無理かもしれないと一瞬思うほどどんどん埋まっちゃたりもしたけど、諦めずに掘っては石、掘っては石、でこの砂地獄からなんとか脱出。でもその後もずっと砂地獄を進むしかなくて、猛スピードで大爆走するという作戦でどうにか自力で抜け出した。誰も居ない砂漠で自分たちだけでものすごく盛り上がって、結局楽しかった。懲りずにこの後オートバイで遊んで帰った。

back to the workshop. this is the front wheel of my Thunderbird.

チャボに戻る。こちらは棚からぼた餅びわ号のフロント・ウィール。

shinya told me to use things that we have at the workshop as much as possible to complete this project. but he got me a pair of new boots!

チャボにあるものだけで仕上げるというのがテーマのこのプロジェクト。だけど、ブーツだけ新品付けても良いって。謎だけどうれしい⤴

autumn foliage...

we left and headed North while it was still dark. taking a quick break in the middle of somewhere. three more hours to get to the destination.

暗いうちから出発して北に向かう。途中で休憩中。あと3時間くらいで目的地に着く。

came up to Walnut Creek to pick this lady up. the Moto Guzzi Le Mans III. we found a beautiful canyon road so shinya lost no time to try it out.

実はこちらのモト・グジィ、ル・マンIIIを引き取りに北カリフォルニアのウォールナット・クリークというところまでやって来たという話。とても美しい山道を見つけてしまったので、早速乗り回す木村氏。

a view from Mt.Diablo. i used to go to school around here. it brings back a lot of sweet memories.

マウント・ディアブロからの風景。実は高校がこの近くだったので懐かしい。

trees are ablaze with fall colors up here 🍁 now we load the Guzzi and go back to Azusa.

北の方は紅葉があってカラフルで美しいな。さて、グジィを積んでアズサに戻ろう。

ウェンドーヴァーのガソリンスタンドでよく見かける光景。

almost Vegas. and we kept on going to...Azusa.

もうちょっとでラス・ヴェガス。このままアズサまで突っ走る絶好調のグリーンベレー。グリーンベレーとは筆者のこと、または長距離運転の特別訓練を受けているかのようなさま。

we somehow made it to Baker and decided to take a nap because most of us haven't slept in more than 24 hours.

なんとかラスヴェガスの手前の小さな町ベイカーまでたどり着く。でもみんなほとんど24時間以上寝ていないので、宇宙人がやってるビーフジャーキーのお店のところで仮眠することに。

仮眠終了、再び出発。

passed Las Vegas at last.

やっとこラスヴェガスを通過。

got to Ely, Nevada and decided to stay over night here. 208 miles short of salt flats. Wata has some more things to do on the 240Z so we all helped at a motel parking lot.

ボンネビルの約335km手前Elyという小さな町で一泊することに。そして、まだ残っているWタナベ氏の作業をモーテルの駐車場でみんなで手伝う。

didn't have time to put competition number on the left side so shinya rose up to work on it using a vinyl tape that he got at 99¢ store right behind the motel :D

左側にゼッケンを入れる時間がなかったため、木村氏が描き始めた。描く・・・は違うな。なにせ裏の99㌣ストア（100均ショップみたいなところ）でゲットしたビニールテープをくねくねやってるのだから。

now Wata is adding border by correction tape from 99¢ store.

そして、ピンストライパーかのごとくビニテの数字に縁取りを施すWタナベ氏。by修正テープfrom 100均。

not bad at all!

left Azusa around 6 am and 5+ hours later, we are in Monterey :) 

急遽、朝6時にアズサを出発。5時間ちょっと後に北カリフォルニアのモントレーに到着。

our empty van looked like this another 2 hours later :D　looks like a pile of junk but they are treasures for some people, right? mostly 60s Honda parts and motors.

さらにその2時間後にはカラだったチャボバンがこんな感じで満載に。ガラクタなんて言ったら叱られます。60年代のホンダのパーツやエンジンなど、人によっては大切な宝の山なんでしょうけど、宝に見えない。

had to help the seller to clean his garage in order to get some more stuff and extra discount 👀 my whole body aches. 

なぜか売主のおじいさんのガレージの掃除まで手伝う派目に。てきぱき働いて更なる値引きやゴミオマケをゲット。身体が痛い。

that was a flying visit. thought Monterey was an oceanfront resort where people take a vacation and get relaxed... haha

トンボ帰り。確かモントレーってオサレなリゾート地じゃなかった？ま、楽しかったからいいんですけども。

 sunday road trip to the desert...

日曜日、なぜか砂漠の方にロードトリップ...

 to pick up this not-running CL175.

こちらの不動のCL175を掘り出しに行ったわけで。

i don't know what shinya wants to do with this one :) he just wanted it.

これをいったいどうするつもりなのか、まったく分からないわけで。ホンダ病でしょうね。

decided to go for a sunset ride. enjoying the daylight saving time.

せっかく本日からサマータイムになったので、サンセット・ライドに繰り出すことに。

shinya took his CB77, i took the Aermacchi. wanted to keep on riding forever.

木村氏はCB77、筆者は絶好調のマッキで。あー、いつまでも乗っていたい。

taking off original fasteners and strap from the ragged seat of CL175 and putting them to his CB160.

先ほどのCL175のボロボロのシートからリヴェットやストラップなどを外して、ご自分のCB160に移植する木村氏。ほんと、好きよねえ。
