"Unsafe at any speed...',according to Ralph Nader. My neighbor when I was a High School kid, built his son a Corvair Monza Spyder Turbo (I believe it was called.) Like the one in your pic it really had a similar shape to the Camaro. I didn't mind the looks of the boxier earlier Corvairs. 'Boxer-6' air cooled motors. My father almost bought a Corvair Greenbrier van, but ended up getting a 64 Econoline camper van.
Hairly Larry: i saw a corvair, a pinto and a dutsun 110 in a book called "the worst cars ever made"...but i like them all. corvair has a rear engine? love econoline camper van!
shellie: stop by sometime when you are there, pleeeeeeeeeeeez!!
Yep, Corvairs had engine in the rear with a transaxle. Some people put Corvair motors into Bugs and Dunebuggies/sand buggies with adapter plates. Have even seen Corvair motors in Motorcycles. I had a '72 Pinto with the 2000cc motor that was one of the best running cars I ever owned. People put Pinto motors in Sandbuggies as well. My fathers Econoline had a 'Turtle-top' pop-up top, where my sister would sleep. my brother slept across the drivers compartment. I slept above the bed my parents were in. if anybody had to get up to use the restroom at night it was hilarious as you had to climb through all these cots to get up and out.We drove that van cross-country from Massachusetts to California in '64. I've owned several Econolines. Wish I had one now.
