oh my van...

ok, we didn't ride to born free show. call us wimpy. we had the race right next day. had to save our energy. yes, we are wimpies.

 
ボーンフリーにバイクで行かなかった私達を弱虫と呼んでくださって結構ですのよ。エルミラージュでのレースを翌日に控えて、エネルギーを蓄えておかなくっちゃいけなかったからなんて言い訳、そう単なる弱虫です。

レース前夜。相変わらず良い音。ファイヤーってな感じで気合満タン。

didn't forget about putting the class 

on the body.

車検でまた怒られちゃうからね、
右側にもクラスを忘れずに書いておきましょう。

we were so well prepared.

車検もちっとも怖くない。
なんてったって、準備万端だから。

we had no way of knowing that something 

would happen to our van later at this moment.

スターティング・ラインで並んでいる時、
真っ赤なクーダが隣に着たのでパチリ。
この時はこれから我らがバンに起こる不幸を知るすべも無かったのね。
余裕だったのね。

the van died right after i took this picture...
the starter motor...
we had to push the van away from the starting line.
i left shinya on the line and run around to find
alternative support car. thank Bean Bandit guys,
i jumped into one of their trucks 
right before shinya's turn
and could follow him on the return road.
shinya got 101 something.
i'm pretty sure that he could not 
concentrate on his run.... :<

この写真を撮って間もなく、バン死亡。エンジンかかりません。
スターターモーターです。もう順番はすぐそこ。
取りあえずバンを押して列から外し、木村氏を列に残したまま
誰か車貸してくれ、バイクの積めるサポートカーじゃ！
と鬼の血相で炎天下を欽ちゃん走りで走り回る哀れな乙女。
ビーン・バンディットの心優しい皆が助けてくれて、
何とか木村氏の順番ギリギリでピックアップ・トラックに飛び乗り、
ゴール地点まで知らない人と一緒にお迎えにあがったのでした。
もちろん木村氏は、レースに集中できるはずもなく、
101マイルちょっとという結果に。トホホ
ま、ボンネビルの前にあともう一回エルミラージュあるから
大丈夫さ。

we called AAA, waited for 2 hours on the lake bed,
hit the bottom of the van (the starter motor)
while jump start it, and voila!
we could go home with our van.

そんで帰りどうしたかと言うと、取りあえずAAA,JAFみたいなの呼んで、
オフロードの僻地だから２時間くらい待って、
その間にレースは終了してどんどん人が帰って行ってしまい、
もしかしたら乾いた湖で一晩明かすのか、
という不安と戦いながら爆睡している内にAAAが来て、
ジャンプスタート中にスターターモーター叩いたら
エンジンかかって、そのまま帰って来たのです。
