colors can be tricky...

shinya is not choosing color for the twin-cam. he's so certain about what color he wants but it's not black nor brown, and it's not red either. it's not just a color, it's also a texture. he's been trying a couple new ways to get what he wants but none of them gave him satisfaction. last night, a little after midnight, he finally found a way, almost by accident, to get as close to the color as he wants. i'll post some pictures and explain little bit more when it's done. at the same time he was struggling with the color experiment, he also worked on the brakes and wiring to be ready to ride it finally!


色です。ツインカムを何色にしようか迷っているのではなく、こういう色というのが木村氏の中ではっきりあるようです。でも、それは例えば黒、茶色、赤とかではない。だから、この色で塗る、という話ではないようです。塗料のサンプルの中から色を選ぶのではなく、バイクの造形と乗り手のイメージ、それから質感や素材を生かした色を出す。塗るというより、出す感じ。いくつか新しい試みにチャレンジしていますが、待たされるばかりでどれも木村氏の求めている色を出せない。昨晩、真夜中。ほとんど偶然にその”色”を自力で見つけた木村氏。執念とでも言いますか。妥協しないで自分の内にあるものを目に見えるものにする、というのは大変な作業ですね。見ているだけの私の方が、じーんとしてしまいました。完成したらもう少し詳しく写真と一緒に載せたいと思います。色と闘ってる間にも、ブレーキやワイヤリングの作業を進めて、いよいよラストスパートです。

Sounds interesting, reminding me of a custom paint job I saw done on a 60's pick-up in the late 70's. He had a gold metallic base, with black panels, shot all over with candy red and a ton of clear. The red over the black came out looking like chocolate. Sure was a lot cheaper to paint in those days.
