while niimie was re-checking the timing gear, shinya was sewing the side bag which tore on the stage three last time. he's sewing it with wire this time :)

N美氏がタイミング・ギアを再度チェックしている間に、木村氏はサイドの糸が切れたサイドバッグを縫っています。前回のキャノンボール2日目か3日目で見事に古い糸が切れてバラバラになってしまい、早々に外されてしまったあのサイドバッグです。今回は経験を活かしてワイヤーで縫っています。

taking off the handle on the toolbox incase they need to load something on top. so far they were pretty much relaxed.

後ろに装着している大好きな箱、取っ手が邪魔になってしまうので外しています。と、ここまでは余裕の暢気モード。

あれあれ、何だかだんだんシリアスモードになってきているような・・・

drat, drat, and double drat! they found that the timing gear bushing threads were stripped. shinya said "it's not good but it's good that we found it now." ok, that's great but i started to think who might have that bushing and where to send it as we'd be leaving soon. new york, yes, i should arrange to send it to new york! i decided in a split second. then shinya said "niimie is making one now." of course, they can make anything. what was i so worried about.

がび～ん、がび～ん、ダブルがび～ん。タイミング・ギアのブッシュのスレッドがつぶれているのを発見したそうです。「いやぁ、まずいよー」と木村氏が言った瞬間、すでにアミノ酸を飲み始めている私の頭はフル回転を始めます。タイミングのブッシュか、誰だったら持ってるかな、オレゴンのアンティーク・モーターサイクルってお店ならあるかな。速達してもらっても間に合わないだろうから、ニューヨークの宿の方に送ってもらう手配しないといけないぞ。冴えてる、冴えてる、ありがとうアミノ酸！「あ、今N美くんが作ってるけどさ。いやぁ、でもレース中じゃなくて今見つけてよかったよー」そうでした、この人達が何でも作れちゃうということをすっかり忘れて取り乱しました。アミノ酸はウマシカには効かないようです。

they were checking on the 1925 JD. compare to that, all the parts on our 1915 indian looked so elegant, so delicate, so vulnerable.

25年式のJDを見てすべてが骨太でしっかりしていることに驚く。比べてみると15年のインディアンときたら、線が細くてひ弱。10年の進化は大きいということを実感できます。

they did the test ride and the bushing worked just fine.

ブッシュを新しくしたタイミング・ギアの調子を見にテスト・ライド。いい感じだそうで、ほっとしました。

now the head and tail lights are on.

ヘッドライト、テールライトもばっちりです。

and did a test ride.

"hurry up niimie, you gotta try this. it's like a new machine!"　said shinya.

「ちょっと早く早く、乗ってみてよ、全然違う乗り物みたいだよ！」とN美氏を急かす木村氏。

安堵のにんまり。いやぁ、明日か明後日かには出発しようっていうタイミングでのハプニング。でも本当に意味のある再チェックでした。
