the road to bonneville...

our plan to pass through some up hills in the desert and vegas during the cool parts of the day for sake of our van was just a phantom. it was already in triple digit temp when we left azusa. stopped in baker for a root beer float break at a&w. the van did a great job in the scorching heat but us human beings already felt listless in the van with no a/c. we don't like a/c, none of our cars have a/c, what's a/c anyway?

予定では暗い内に出発し、砂漠の峠とラス・ヴェガスをなるべく涼しい内に通り過ぎるというチャボバンにやさしい計画だった。でもそれは幻。チャボを出る頃にはすでにアズサも摂氏38℃を超えていた。ということは、砂漠は普通に40℃超え。しかし、チャボバンは水温はやや高くなるものの絶好調。一方、我々人間はエアコンなしのバンの中で暑さの向こう側を見てしまい、酔っ払いに近いテンションに。ヴェガスの途中のベイカーという町のA&Wでルートビア・フロートを一気に飲み干す。ふつうルートビア・フロートを一気飲みなんてしないでしょ、ね、暑さの向こう側に行っちゃってるでしょ。

灼熱のベガスを通り過ぎる。

from here, there would be nothing but the straight road of highway 93 in front of us.

ヴェガスからは何もないハイウェイ93をただひたすら進むのみ。

stayed in a little town called ely, about 110 miles from the bonneville.

毎年途中に唯一ある小さな町elyまで一気に来て、ここで泊まる。ボンネビルまであと約１７５キロほど、でもここで休むのと休まないのでは疲れ方が全然違う。
