niimie and i were about to enter chicago when we got a call from shinya. so we pulled over our van and found out that the indian broke down at 150 miles point and shinya tried to do something about it but no luck. he said he was going to wait for the sweep vehicle to pick him and the indian up.


我々がちょうどシカゴに入ったところで鳴ったのは木村氏からの電話。慌てて路肩にバンを寄せた。150マイルまで来たけれど、インディアンの調子がかなり悪くなってしまったらしく、色々やってみたけどこれ以上悪くしたくないのでスイープ・カーを待ってドナドナdeフェリー。うん、残念だけども仕方ない。エンジン自体は問題がないらしいので、ミルウォーキーで良くないないところを直して明日に備えよう、と気持ちを切り替えた。
