どこを見ても絵になる風景。ただ朝食が始まるのを待っているだけなんですけど・・・

watching the moto GP with bunches of people from yamaha europe. sunch an opportunity does not occur everyday :)

このMotoGPレース（3位争いのロッシとマルケスの接触などのドラマあり）を欧州ヤマハの方々と一緒に観るなんて機会はかなりレア。盛り上がり方が半端ないです。

今回欧州ヤマハが発表するXSR700をデザインしたGKデザイン・ヨーロッパのTムラ氏とイタリアのヤマハ開発部のプロジェクト・リーダーYマモト氏。彼らと彼らのチームの血と汗と涙の結晶を前にこれが出来るまでの様々なお話しを伺うことが出来ました。

shinya and i thought what they were doing was 180 degree opposite from what we do since they design and mass produce motorcycles for thousands of people while shinya does that exclusively for one client each time. however, as we get to know them, we found lots of similarities and common grounds, they love any kind of two wheels, they enjoy old tools etc. and more than anything, they love what they do. we learn a lot form them. so lucky to meet them in person and be able to spend time with them for next 6 days or so.

何千何万人ものを人を満足させるオートバイをデザイン・制作する立場のお二人と、一台一台一人のお客さんに向けて制作している木村氏。やっていることが正反対な気がしていましたが、話してみればまずはただのオートバイ好き、という共通点。それから好きなもの、例えば古い乗り物、道具、建物、などの美しさに心を奪われやすいという共通点。こういうものを作りたいという熱い想いがある点、そして、今やっていることが大好きだし、これしかない、と言い切れる点など・・・重なる点がたくさんあって驚きました。もちろん、ものを作る上での制約やたくさんの人の手を経て作られているなどの大きな違いもたくさんあるけれど、コアの部分は同じな気がして嬉しくなりました。そして、本当に勉強になります。お会いできて良かった！

これからプレスの人達が集まって来てパネルディスカッションなるものが始まるため大きなインカムマイクを装着されてふざけ合う小学生のような木村氏とGKデザインのTムラ氏。人前で真面目な話をするのが（しかも英語で）大の苦手な木村氏と、これまた表に駆り出されて大勢の前で話すが苦手なTムラ氏。ふざけていられるのもここまで。ヒヒヒ

イェンツ氏と木村氏はカスタマイザーの立場から見たこのヤマハのファスター・サンという考えや動きについてどう思うかを語り、Yマモト氏とTムラ氏はもちろん新作XSR700についてお話しするようです。すでにがびーんとなっているTムラ氏。

shinya sitting on the cool XSR700 customized by JVB Moto.　Mr.Yamamoto, Yamaha XSR700 project leader, was tearing his hair out by watching this. "no! not on the customized one! try the original!" just kidding. but it's serious that he developed this bike with lots of love.

although the XSR700 design team tried to leave the scope for future owners to personalize/customize the bike any way they want over time, it's not because the original looks ugly. they want to produce one good motorcycle that people fall in love with and enjoy it for a long time like back in old days. that's why they paid lots of attention to materials for owners to enjoy its aging process. ok, now it sounds like i'm becoming a sales rep here. the bottom line is that i'm just a Yamaha fan and i'm very happy to know that Yamaha motorcycles are still made by these specialists who are passionate about what they do.

ドイツのカスタム・ビルダーJBVがカスタムしたXSR700にまたがる木村氏。「えー木村さんカスタムした方に乗っちゃったよ！」と頭を抱えるオリジナルXSR700を開発したYマモト氏。冗談です。でもそれくらい愛を持って開発されています。

乗り手が自由にパーソナライズ出来るようにシンプルに、そして長く乗ってもらいたいという思いで経年変化を楽しめるように素材にもこだわってらっしゃいます。でも、何かオリジナルってダサいから変えようぜ！じゃなくて、このバイク何か好きだな、乗りたいな、で始まって乗っている間に自分の好きな形に少しずつカスタムしていく、という本来の姿に戻していこうとしているのがヤマハなんじゃないかな、と宣伝とかじゃなくて個人的に感じました。ヤマハのオートバイをこよなく愛する者としては、今でもそういう思いを持っている人達が作っていると知って何だかとても嬉しいです。

and tomorrow we all get a chance to ride the XSR700 forabout 200km around this beautiful Sardinia!

そして明日はいよいよXSR700の試乗。皆でこの美しいサルデーニャ島を200キロほど走ります。楽しみ！
