in spite of our hectic schedule,

shinya took the decision, "we gotta be there!"

yes, we are the dumbest motorheads. woo-hoo!

てんてこまいってどんな舞？今なら舞える気がします。

ギリギリまで迷った挙句、木村氏が乗り物馬鹿として出した決断。

やっぱりボンネビル行かない訳にいかないでしょ！

そうだよね、忙しいから今年はお休み、なんて弱虫なこと言ってちゃ

大陸横断なんて無理だもんね。よし、大馬鹿決定、 合格です。

the paris-dakar...

mr.& mrs.N came to visit us on Saturday.

mr.N had completed the dakar rally

a couple of times with his KTM in 90's.

the paris-dakar! 

over 10,000km (6,200 miles) in 20 days.

it's an off-road, endurance race...

wow...

it just made us feel at ease a lot

about the cannonball. :)

a great encounter.

Nご夫妻が訪ねてくださった。

ご主人が９０年代にKTMでパリダカを数回完走していることを、

とても自然に、言ってみればフツーの事のように話されて、

度肝を抜かされました。１万キロ以上でしょ、砂漠でしょ、

夜も走ったりするでしょ、水とかどうするの？

つーかどうやって目的地が分かるの、バイクだよ？

ナビゲーターが横にいる訳じゃないよね。

止まっちゃったら誰か助けに来てくれるの？

巨大サソリィィィィィ!!!というようなことが頭をグルグル。

お二人が帰られた後、アメリカ大陸横断キャノンボール、

横断出来そうな気になった、少しだけ。道があるだけでもありがたいのだ。

また遊びにいらしてください！美味しいケーキありがとうございました。

日に日に感情移入指数が上がります。

本当に今までやってきたことの総決算みたいな感じで、

次から次へと問題が起こっても淡々とこなしていく木村氏。

そして、黙々とイメージトレーニングを重ねる相棒のN美氏。

あのぅ、ロッキー山脈がそんな急坂だったら、絶対無理じゃん？

サンタ・モニカへ。しかし街中は渋滞でライド感全く無し。

 most of them were heading to san francisco

after this. will be a real ride.

wish we could go with them

but our 1915 indian was waiting for us.

so we went back to the workshop...

多くの人はこの後サンフランシスコへ向けてライドを続けるそう。

それならライド感満載だね。

一瞬一緒に行っちゃってもいいかなとも思ったけども、我々はここでさよなら。

 やること山積みんぐですからね。

on saturday, reunion with old friend from hong kong...

shinya and R(man san)

they met in japan 23 years ago

when shinya was working at one of 

the motorcycle dealers in japan

as a head mechanic,

R came as a technical trainee from hong kong.

now shinya is in california

and R is the president of the harley davidson

dealer, the only one in hong kong.

R came to the states for the harley davidson 

dealer meeting in vegas and stopped by 
at our workshop afterward. 
a long-lasting bonds of friendship...

木村氏の23年来の友達マンさん。

23年前に木村さんが某ディーラーで工場長だった頃（プッ）

マンさんは香港から研修生として1年間そこに来ていたそう。

今や木村氏はなぜか南カリフォルニアに住み、

マンさんは香港で唯一のハーレー・ディーラーのプレジデントに。

ラスベガスでのハーレーのディーラーミーティングの帰りに

チャボに寄ってくれたマンさんご一行を、得意の飲茶でお迎えする木村氏。

と言っても向かいの大上海バフェじゃありませんよ、

あそこはつぶれちゃったの、だから新中華街のモノホン飲茶へ。

本場の皆さんも現地の味と遜色ないとおっしゃっていたので、

やっぱり相当に美味しいんだな、あそこ。満腹。

仮付けだったヘッドライトもちゃんと溶接。

shinya loves to customize just about anything...
this time, the knob.

どんなものでもただそのまんま、というのが嫌なのでしょう。

何か見るとカスタマイズしたくなっちゃう性分・・・で、ノブ。

but of course, it has to look better 

if you are gonna change it...

so he put the black knob back. weh :)

hmm...it started it all.

when we were kids, we put stickers on our bicycles

and then changed the frame color...then

changed the handle bars and seat 

to make it special :)

well...sometimes you did too much 

and made it look strange

but overall, it was fun and exciting...

bicycle, motorcycle, car, tools...

we are still doing it.

now the tool box is on.

ま、ちょっとやってみただけ。また黒玉に戻す。

結局子供の頃に自分の自転車にシール貼ったり、

フレームの色変えたりハンドルやシート替えたりして

自分だけの一台に変えていく快感や、

皆よりもかっこいいのに乗りたいって思っていた気持ちが、

そのまま大きくなったような感じ。

しかし、やり過ぎて元に戻したくなることも多々あるのでR。

 いよいよ道具箱も乗っかりました。
