at 4:00 AM. loaded our motorcycles (NFS) in the van and heading to the motorcycle auctions in Las Vegas.

朝の4時。毎年恒例ラスヴェガスのモーターサイクルオークションへ向かうため、なぜか自分達のオートバイを積んで出発。

木村氏は15年のインディアンで3回も大陸横断にチャレンジしているばかりに会場で10年代のインディアンについて色んな人から様々な質問を受ける羽目に。少なくとも15年に関してなら経験から答えられる・・・っていうのも凄いなあ。

reunited with the fellow cannonballer B.Carson and Lonnie, the organizer of the Cannonball. two heroes.

キャノンボール仲間の「テキサスの男気番長」こと貫禄のバック先輩（24歳）とキャノンボールの首謀者Lonnie氏と再会。他にもたくさんキャノンボーラー達や毎年ここで会う人達と再会できるのが楽しみのひとつ。

しまいには履いてるブーツまでもバフバフ。止まらなくなっちゃったみたい。

it doesn't look like it in this picture but today we had 80° nice and warm weather during the day.

この写真からは伝わりにくいですが、日中は27℃近かった1月なのに夏のようなアズサ。さすがに日が落ちると涼しくなりますが、このような装いだと昼間は汗だくになるので要注意。

本日もメヌード。

another motorcycle fanatic friend of ours AI dropped in with Honda VF1000 and S-san on Kawasaki Z2 (imported from Japan, pretty rare to see it here in the U.S.).

モーターサイクル変の態幹部クラスのAサオ氏がVF1000でアズサ山に初詣にいらっしゃった。お友達のSトウ氏は北米ではレアなカワサキZ2で（昔に日本から輸入されたそう）。

needless to say,  we went for a quick canyon ride.

そして山。木村氏は王様で。

 honda, honda, kawasaki, yamaha.

ホンダ、ホンダ、カワサキ、ヤマハ。何だか縁起が良い。

 night fell so quickly,

it was a hot ride in a frigid climate. brrrr

本日の山。ピキピキとした寒さであっという間に冷凍人間。でも楽しいからいっか。

seasonal tradition...

in japan, the new year season continues for the seven days from the new year's day and especially the first three days are considered the most important holidays for the japanese. most of businesses are closed and people spend their time with their family eating special food visiting a shrine or a temple etc. 

but here, though we prepared some traditional new year's food, we let the days go past like any other day spending time at the workshop and riding motorcycles. however, this picture, shinya tinkering with a two barrel SU carburetor off of '50s racing car, shows very typical of him during the first three days of the new year. every year he brings his own project (remember his suzuki GS1000?) one year was yoshimura engine, this year SU carb, etc. on the workbench or on the lift and fantasizing about it for a while. this makes me feel that we are in the new year :D

元日から仕事をしてオートバイに乗る、といういつもと変わらない日々を過ごしておりますここはアズサ。もちろん、新しい一年が始まるというのは気持ち的に引き締まりますし、初夢が気になったりもします。しかし結局、アルミを削ったり溶接したり山行ったりの写真しかないので、ブログもひとつもお正月気分になりません。が、こちらの一枚。50年代のレースカーについていたトゥーバレルのSUキャブレターを引っ張り出してきた木村氏。そう、毎年お正月になるとご自分のプロジェクトを出してきてはいじくりながら空想にふける、というのが慣わしになっております。いつかの年はGS1000、ヨシムラ・エンジンの年もありました。これを見るとお正月だなあ、と感じるチャボの新年の風物詩でございます。

a century ago this year...

it's 2015 and our 1915 indian officially became 100 years old! a perfect choice to start the new year with.

2015年になり、我々の1915年インディアンも正式に100歳となりました。年初めに乗るのにぴったりの縁起物。

and so we paid our first visit of the year to the canyon. haven't done anything since the last cannonball but it started and sounded pretty good.

ということで、山に初詣に向かいます。あれから何もしていないのに良い音で普通に動くのが凄い。

良いスタートが切れました。
