another great morning on the salt has begun.

本日も気持ちの良い朝。

we're gonna race Sepia today so getting ready for the tech inspection.

そして、ベルト待ちのスパイクはお休みしてセピアを走らせるため、車検の準備。

all doors are open.

ドア全部開け。

this will be the first land speed experience for the owner of Sepia K, our racemate, and he's ready!

セピアのオーナー、チームメイトのKにとってはこれが初ランド・スピード・体験。多少の不安はあるものの、やる気満々。

at the tech.

車検場にて。

saw many familiar faces coming back from the backup record run and heading to impound! way to go Johnny! couldn't take pictures but Wess White of Four Aces broke his class record, too. yay!

続々と馴染みの顔がレコードを破ってインパウンドに入ってくる！J、やったね！あと、写真撮れなかったけどFour AcesのWWもついに！

all at once, the rear door of our van broke so shinya had to repair it while waiting for the tech.

何の前兆もなく突然チャボバンの後ろのドアが壊れる。車検を待っている間に直す木村氏。我々のレースにはバンの修理も含まれている。

JのGMCバン対チャボのダッジバン。走行距離なら負けないぜぃ。

the Knuckle and the Indian twin-Scout! they both just broke their class records. so cool!

おじいちゃんライダーのナッコーとインディアン・スカウト二個積み。どちらもそれぞれのクラスで記録を出したてホヤホヤ。カッコイイ！

now Johnny is changing class and going for another record!

Jはクラスを変えて再びレコードにチャレンジするんだって。しびれる。

Sepia has pre-inspected at El Mirage so we thought it would be a easy inspection...

エルミラージで一度車検を受けているので、簡単に終わるだろうなあと思っていたら・・・

however, since its first time racing on the salt with new rider, it was closely inspected (which is good). they tested if we could shut off on both sides of the petcocks while riding on the course without looking at it and we were keep failing doing so on the right side. instead of relocating the petcock, shinya decided not to use the right side gas tank and he took out the hose and stick a bolt to the hose end just to show the inspectors that they were not going to use the right side gas tank. and we passed.

バイクもライダーもボンネビルで一度も走ったことがないというので、かなり厳しくチェックされる。もちろん、安全のために当たり前のことなんだけど。今までにやったことのないテストをされ・・・コース上で何か問題が起こったとして、前を見たまま手元を見ずにコックを閉められるかというもの。左右両方にあるので、左は出来るんだけど、何度やっても右だけどうしても手元をチラッと見てしまう。で、コックの位置を移動しなくちゃダメだと言われ。だったら右の燃料タンクは使わない、と木村氏は言ってホースを抜いてボルトをホースの先に詰め込んでみせた。それならいいよ、と言われてスイスイっと車検はパス。

next up, rookie orientation. rookies cannot race without attending it.

続いてルーキー・オリエンテーション。初めての人はこれに参加しないと走らせてもらえない。

そしてついにスタートの列に並ぶことが出来た。

着替えも完了！

this is a license run for rookie K so just go easy and finish the whole 2 miles and he'll get a license to go faster and is no longer a rookie then.

ルーキーの一走目はライセンス・ランと言って、150マイル以下でコースを完走しなくてはならない。するとスピードを出してもよいライセンスがもらえて、ルーキーからも卒業できる。

たぶん本人よりも木村氏の方が緊張していたと思う。

Sepia lost speed soon after it took off and had to turn out before the finish line.

残念ながら走り始めてすぐにパワーを失い失速、途中でコース外に出てしまった。残念！

back to the pit to diagnose.

ピットに戻って早速調査。

ahh... found some debris in the carb and that caused overflow.

キャブに古いゴムの破片みたいのが入り込んでオーバーフローしちゃっていた。

when shinya took off the fuel hose and stuck an old bolt to seal it at the tech, that's probably when these debris came through... oh, well. he cleaned it and fixed the problem for tomorrow.

たぶん、車検の時に咄嗟に外したホースの先に古いボルトを突っ込んだからホースのゴム破片やゴミが入っちゃったのではないか。ということで、きれいにして明日に備える。

Kiyo and Kat arrived safely on the salt and brought us a new primary belt. here, shinya is installing it and getting ready for tomorrow. thanks to Cannonball and land speed racing that require quick action, shinya got faster and faster at his job on-site/out side.

なんだか皆で興奮しちゃって写真を撮り忘れてしまったけれど、Ｋヨ氏とＫットさんが無事にボンネビルに到着！（さすがにエルカミーノではなくバンを借りていてホッ）そして、プライマリー・ベルトも持って来てくれた！ありがとう！！さっそく装着。明日に備える。キャノンボールやレースで鍛えられたおかげで外での作業もへっちゃらな木村氏。素早い。

our friend Sam and his crews are still working on the Miyata, struggling to clear tech inspection. it seems very tough but they won't give up. wish them luck!

Sム氏のミヤータチーム。まだ車検をパスするための直し作業中。かなり大変そうだけど色々工夫しながら諦めずにがんばる皆さんの姿はとても素敵。なんとか走ってほしい。いや、きっと走れる！ファイ㌧！
