speedweek day 2...

 great morning.

美しき朝。

this year the owner of the spike finally made it out to the salt flats for the first time in 5 years. the last time he blew the engine...

今年は5年ぶりにスパイクのオーナーがボンネビルに来ることが出来たので、1走目はオーナーが乗ります。5年前はそんなにスピードも出ていないのにエンジンをぶっ壊すという黒歴史を持っているオーナー。今年は壊さない、と意気込んでおります。ヒヤヒヤします。
 

the spike has changed a lot and became faster in 5 years since. plus the owner is traumatized by the engine blow up experience, he was a bit daunted and couldn't hit 100mph but didn't blow up the engine this time so he can try again :)

5年前からずいぶんと変化を遂げ速くなっているスパイク。さらに5年前のエンジンぶっ壊し体験のトラウマもあって、一走目は全開に出来なかったらしいオーナー、100マイルに届かず。しかし、今回はエンジンは無事ですから、また走れます！

 now shinya's turn!! and was 119.2mph...

続いて木村氏の番です。で、また119.2マイル(191.8km/h)・・・

 shinya tries again.

納得いかず、もう一走。

the owner brought his 84 years old father to the salt flats this time. his father was car engineer so he was very excited to see all these race machines and was enjoying the sounds. and shinya's second run was 119.7mph again...

今回スパイクのオーナーは84歳のお父様にもボンネビルを見せてあげたいと連れていらっしゃいました。エンジニアだったお父様は様々なレースマシンを見て大変喜ばれ、音が最高だとおっしゃっていました。素敵な親孝行ですね。　さて、木村氏の2走目、再び119．7マイル（192.6km/h)。

it was hot out here on the salt especially for 84-year-old father so the owner took him back to the hotel. we went back to the pit and changed the jet and came back to the starting line for the third run.

84歳のお父様にとっては塩の上の暑さは過酷ですので、オーナーはお父様と一緒にホテルに戻られました。我々はいったんピットに戻りジェットを変えたりして再びスターティング・ラインに。

here, 3 sons supporting their 74 years old dad to drive their machine. 3 sons rode it yesterday.

こちらは3人の息子逹が74歳のお父さんがレースするのをサポートしています。息子逹は昨日順番に走ったそうで、親子皆でレースを楽しんでいるなんて本当に素敵。

he got 121.05mph so changing jet and try one more time.

さっきは121．05マイル(194.8km/h)でしたので、ジェットを変えてもう1走！ 
 

the last run for the second day. 120.07mph...

本日最後の一走。結果は120マイル(193km/h)・・・伸び悩んでおります。

さて、スパイクをバンから降ろす気力も体力も果て、明日の準備をチャボバンの中で始める木村氏。

!!! man, seems like he's gonna try the ram-air intake tomorrow!

おっとーーーー！！！いよいよラム・エア・インテークの登場なのか？！ここで出しちゃうのか？！

speedweek day 1, camera photos...

early in the morning. sin5 on my SR500 heading to the pit.

早朝、SR500でピットに向かうsin5氏。オートバイの免許取ったばかり、初アメリカ本土、初ボンネビルで、この景色の中を滑走。ある意味夢の実現。（以下カメラで撮った初日の写真）

そしてピットからスターティング・ラインへ向かう。（遠い）

スタート前、皆にんまり。

 

as i mentioned earlier, the first run was early turnout.

ご存じ、一走目はベルトが切れて計測地点前でコースを外れる。

 replacing the belt and the chain.

ベルトとチェーンを急いで取り換える。

 

the second run was 117.793mph, the third run was 119mph and our first day was over. to be continued...

第二走目は117.793マイル(189.5kmh)、第三走目は119マイル(191.5kmh)で、初日終了、明日に続きます。

第一走目は途中でプライマリー・ベルトが切れて失速。計測地点前でコースから外れる・・・コースから外れると救急車が出動するので、心臓が破裂しそうになります。しかし、失速しただけで無事。

切れ切れ。こんなのが絡まっていた、恐るべし。

broken pieces got stuck into drive chain so shinya had to replace it, too.

ベルトの破片がチェーンにも絡まってしまったので、チェーンも新品に交換。

２走目！

the calm before the race...

we got here on salt flats before in the morning and got in line for the tech.

無事に辿り着き車検の列に並んでいます。

we'll be staying in ely tonight as usual.

いつも通り途中の小さな町で一泊する予定。

we're heading off to salt flats tomorrow. i'll try to post daily while we're there. if not, check my instagram "meanacing ayu". i will catch up with the 10-day project and other stuff when we come back from bonneville.
