we dropped the spike off at irwindale speedway because SCTA will have their booth at annual el camino swap meet tomorrow and showcasing some land speed racers there.

明日、毎年恒例のエル・カミーノ・スワップミートでSCTAがブースを出してランドスピード・レーサーをディスプレイするというので、スパイクにもお声が掛かった。ので、アーウィンデールのスピードウェイに搬入しに。

この体勢で最高速を出すなんて、ほんと無茶するなあ。寝ちゃったらどうするんだろ。

met fellow cannonballer DF (or Einstein) at the venue and he stopped by our workshop after his early bird treasure hunting :)　DF also will participate in the third cannonball and said "this time next year, we'll be in florida(next starting post). so we've got exactly a year, did you know?" oh, man! we are so not ready...

なんと、初回と二回目のキャノンボールで一緒だったDFと会場でばったり。（チーム♯80では密かにアインシュタインと呼んでいた）DFは一足先に明日のスワップミートの会場を偵察（本気）、その後チャボに寄ってくれた。「ちょうど来年の今頃は俺達次のキャノンボールのスタート地点にいるはずなんだ、ぴったり1年後だよ、知ってた？」と脅してくる。やめて！ちなみに彼は1回目は15年のインディアンで参戦、２回目は20年のヘンダーソン・デラックス、本人曰く2回とも惨敗だったので、3回目は22年のヘンダーソンで勝負って言っていた。（何台持ってるんだという話）しかもまだバラバラらしい。ちょっと安心した。待てよ、全然勉強してないと言ってたくせにいい点取るタイプかもしれないから安心はできないぞ。

since DF is an expert at vintage motorcycles, he knows all the tricks and is giving of his knowledge to us. we just become sponge and absorb as much as we can. we also share this precious cannonball experiences together, it enhance our friendship even more special.

17歳の頃からナックルや旧車のパーツを集め始めたというDFは正真正銘のヴィンテージ・オートバイ・エキスパートである。そんな彼が惜しみなく分け与えてくれる知識を、我々はただスポンジとなって吸収させてもらう。時に一緒に体験した大陸横断での苦労や楽しかったこと悔しかったことを話すことも出来る。キャノンボールに参加したことによって得た様々な出会いは、一生の宝物だなあ。

夜中のドーナットマンに行く途中でオートバイがたくさん見えたので寄ってみた、というCJM。あれ？シンヤ・キムラ？まさか！シンヤは日本に居るんだと思っていた、ウソだろ？写真集も持っているのに！え？マジかよ！と大興奮。そんな中アインシュタインは筆者のipadでひたすら探し物、平常心。こうじゃなきゃキャノンボールは乗り越えられませぬ。

it turns your white tee and your face black and it's a hard work both physically and mentally but shinya's always filled with a sense of fulfillment after buffing.

 

体力も気力も使うし、顔は真っ黒になるし・・・バフ掛けって大変な作業だけど、終わった後は相当な達成感を得られるらしい。

sin5 took the SR500 to went see his friend but he somehow came back by bus...oh, my. we got ready for the worst-case scenario...but it turned out that he just lost the key. really? well, as long as no one was hurt and my SR is in a secure place, i guess it's not a big deal.
 
SRに乗ってお友達の所に行っていたsin5氏がなぜかバスで帰って来た・・・瞬時に様々な最悪の事態が浮かぶ。が、鍵がどうしても見つからなくなっちゃっただけらしい。鍵？鍵ないと困るよ。けど、事故でもなく事件でもなく、SRは安全な場所に置いてあるらしいし、ま、いっか。それに、sin5氏はよくものを失くすけど、いつも失くしたものはどこかから出てくる。なので、きっと鍵も出てくると思う。

before we went to salvage the SR, shinya wanted to make a special tool because sin5 locked the handlebars.

さて、鍵がなくてもエンジンは掛けられますがハンドルがロックしてあるため、引き揚げに行く前にスペシャル・ツールを作る木村氏。ハンドルロックしたままだとバンに載せるのも大変そうだしね。

that special tool made by shinya worked perfect and he was able to unlock the handlebars.　but this wasn't the end. before we leave the scene, sin5's friend asked his super if someone turned in any keys and the super said yes. it was THE key.

スペシャル・ツールがばっちり使えて難なくハンドルロック解除。SRをバンに積んで帰る前にsin5氏のお友達が彼のアパートの管理人に鍵の落とし物がなかったか聞いてくれた。あった。ちーん。

ここのブースの人はいつもオースチン・ヒーレーで来ているけど、クルマは売り物ではない。

Mr. M of Marumasu Motorcycle Lounge stopped by again after BUB at bonneville salt flats with Mr.K and Mr.F of Kushitani (kushitani usa).

今年もマルマスのMズタニ氏がボンネビル・ソルトフラッツで開催されたBUBで更なるスピードにチャレンジしに来米、レースを終えて帰国前にチャボに寄ってくださいました。今回は”クシタニ”のKシタニ氏とFジオカ氏も日本から応援にいらしていました。一足先に帰国されたCharge M/CのMサ氏には今年はお会い出来ず、残念。

Mr.M renewed everything from last year including frame on his record holding machine, changed class and challenged himself. had clutch trouble on the first day and took 2 days for repairing but got average 166mph. the last day was cancelled because of the rain and he couldn't brake the class record this year. however, his machine performed very well and now he has got the reason to come back next year :) so, see you next year! 

今年は昨年のマシンをフレームからすべて一新して新しいクラスで更なるスピードにチャレンジしたMズタニ氏。初日にクラッチ・トラブル発生で修理に2日を要したそうですが、マシンはかなり調子が良く、平均速度166マイルを記録したそうです。最終日が雨でキャンセルになってしまったのは残念ですが、これでまた来年戻って来る良い理由ができましたね！何だか毎年お会いするのが夏の終わりの風物詩になりつつあります。今回はすでにマシンを梱包済みで実車を見ることは出来ませんでしたが、また来年！
