 good freezing morning in Kansas.

真冬のカンザス、おはようございます。

stage 8, 314 miles to Colorado. mostly flat and straight. go niimie!

ステージ8はコロラド州の端っこまで500km越えの平坦で真っ直ぐな道のり。

the cannonballers disappear in a dense fog one by one.

深い霧の中に吸い込まれてゆくキャノンボーラー達。

everlasting 360°flat scenery and straight road.

360°見渡す限り平坦な真っ直ぐの道を500km、チャボバンもひた走る。

in Burlington at today's finishing point. rear-facing photographer Michael Lichter came back.

本日のゴール、コロラド州バーリントンにて。第一回目のキャノンボールからずっと後ろ向きでキャノンボーラー達の勇姿を撮り続けている、写真家のマイケル・リクター氏が戻って来た。

DK is back. a crowd of all the support crew who were waiting for their riders lessen gradually...someone told us that he saw niiime fixing something on the side of the road around lunch time. but niimie hasn't called yet so we believe he's on the road now. shinya said "don't worry. niimie is a great mechanic, whatever happens he will manage to fix it and move on!" we have 4 more minutes to be able to get the whole points but we don't care about that. as long as niimie and the indian are ok, we will be happy.

DKも戻って来た。一緒にライダー達を待っていたサポート・クルー達がひとり減り、ふたり減り、最後はチーム80だけになる。お前達の友達がお昼頃道の途中で何か作業していたぞ、という情報も。でも、連絡がないということは走っているに違いない。 「もし直せない問題なら連絡があるはずだし、N美くんはさ、ちゃんとしたメカニックなんだからさ、何があっても大丈夫だよ。」と木村氏が言う。でも、もう心臓がバクバク。制限時間まであと4分。時間は過ぎてもいいから、とにかく無事に戻って来てほしい、ただそれだけ。

すると、キタァァァァァ！！

 go go go!

行け行け～

 niimie made it by 3 minutes!

制限時間残り3分のところでぎりぎりゴール！

 this smile. he's the man!

あの道を走ってきた人の笑顔。本物。凄いよ、N美氏！

the reason why niimie took so much time was because the stand broke and he had to fix it in order to avoid it sag and drag and to make fuel stop, kick start, etc.　after that, he said he just flopped forward on the indian and went as fast as it could go.

時間がぎりぎりになってしまったのはスタンドがパッキリ折れてしまって引きずってしまっていたから。スタンドがないと止められないし給油もままならまいしキックもできないので、ナイスな応急処置を施したN美氏。直した後は身体を伏せてスピード・マックスで疾走してきたらしい。やっぱり素晴らしい！
