it has been raining for two days...

rains finally arrived. for dry southern california, it supposed to be blessed rain but it also bringing new danger, mudslide, in those areas burned by recent wildfires. our prayers are with all those impacted by the fires and mudslides.

2日連続で雨が降っている。年中干ばつの南カリフォルニアにとっては恵みの雨ではあるけれど、先月の大火事で燃えた広大なエリアは今度は土砂崩れという新たな危険に晒される。どうか被害が最小限で収まりますよう。ああ、人間の身勝手さ。

6:58 AM on the dry lake. because of a thick cloud clocked out the sunrise, it was crispy cold out there. 

今年最後の日は早起きして日の出前にドライ・レイクへ。雲が低くて太陽が中々出てこない。空気がきーんと冷たい。

2017 was exciting and fun year for us, racing, riding, spending quality time with great people. but we were tormented by some deep sorrow at the same time because we lost very important people in our lives. so we decided to wrap up our 2017 having fun riding on the lake bed with them in our hearts 😊 and getting ready to welcome the new year with calm and serene minds in the nature. 

thank you for your support, checking this desultory blog occasionally. much peace, love and joy to you all in 2018.

2017年、一緒にレースにのめり込んだり、純粋に思いっきり遊べる仲間との絆が深まったとてもエキサイティングで楽しい1年だった。特別な出会いもあった。と同時に、我々の人生に多大なる影響を与えてくれた大切な2人の友を失い、深い悲しみに打ちひしがれた年でもある。そんな1年の最後の日は大好きなこの場所で、先に旅立ってしまったすべての愛する人たちと一緒にオートバイに乗って楽しもう。そして、大自然の中で心穏やかに新しい年を迎える準備をしよう。

今でもこの遅れがちな🐢マイペースブログを覗いてくださっている皆さま（がいらっしゃるとしたら）、本当にありがとうございます。これからものんびりですが続けていくつもりですので、お時間がある時たま～に覗いていただけたら嬉しいです。2018年も素晴らしい年になりますよう。良いお年をお迎えください。

caught in a doodlebug's pit...

had to pick up some parts from a person located in a desert area so we decided to take our small bikes with us and ride in the nature but ended up digging holes in the sandy wash to rescue our van before we unload the bikes 😭

砂漠地帯に住んでいる人のところにパーツを取りに行くことになったので、ついでに砂漠で遊んで帰ろうということになって張り切ってオートバイ積んできたはいいけど、遊ぶ前にチャボバンが砂に埋まっちゃった。では、まずは救助活動から。掘る。

dig and dig. then put some rocks.

ひたすら掘る。掘って石を敷きつめる。

back up a little bit. dig. put some rocks. and repeat. at one point we almost gave up but we kept on and finally got out from THIS bed of quick sand but there were another one or two ahead of us. so we just careened through and somehow made it to the hard surface area. strangely enough, it was fun after all😸 then, we enjoyed a gorgeous trail ride in the sand afterwards. 

ちょっとさがっては、再び掘る。石、敷きつめる。繰り返す。無理かもしれないと一瞬思うほどどんどん埋まっちゃたりもしたけど、諦めずに掘っては石、掘っては石、でこの砂地獄からなんとか脱出。でもその後もずっと砂地獄を進むしかなくて、猛スピードで大爆走するという作戦でどうにか自力で抜け出した。誰も居ない砂漠で自分たちだけでものすごく盛り上がって、結局楽しかった。懲りずにこの後オートバイで遊んで帰った。

shinya told me to use things that we have at the workshop as much as possible to complete this project. but he got me a pair of new boots!

チャボにあるものだけで仕上げるというのがテーマのこのプロジェクト。だけど、ブーツだけ新品付けても良いって。謎だけどうれしい⤴

なんだか一気に進んだ。嬉しい。

Sepia. just remembered that it ended with a crack in the oil tank at SpeedWeek. really the course was rough. now shinya is going to fix that.

セピア。ボンネビルで最後にオイルタンクにクラックが入って終わったのを急に思い出して、修理しだす木村氏。

the best and tough part of land speed racing is we race in the middle of Mother Nature, not on a man-made track. every year, the salt and over all course conditions are different. sometimes we had powder salt and flat course and another times, pretty wet and heavy salt and rough course or even worth. but i think that's why it hold our spellbound. when we stand on the salt and see the rising sun and sunset, moon and starry night, we realize just how insignificant we are and still we are racing for the speed 😺

人工的に作られたサーキットやトラックと違って、大自然の中でレースをするというのがランド・スピード・レーシングの醍醐味のひとつだと思う。毎年塩のコンディションが違うし、それに伴ってコースのコンディションも左右される。塩がサラサラで真っ平らなコースだった時もあれば、水分を含んだ重い塩でコースに深い轍が何本もできたり、今年のように塩がガチガチでコースが凸凹だったり。でも、そういう人間の力の及ばない中でスピードを賭けたレースをするっていうのが難しいけどこれまた我々を魅了して止まないんじゃないかと思いながら毎年参加し続けている。塩の上に立ち朝日を見て太陽が沈んで空から星が降ってくるのを見ると、人間なんてほんとにちっぽけで些細なものだと感じられる。そんなちっぽけな人間達がどこからともなくレースをしに集まって来るんだから、ほんと面白い。

無事に干湖まで辿り着いた。

see the windblown blue balloon here? it's a bit windy morning but it's a tail wind. in another word, "El Mirage Turbo" ;p

風船が風になびいている。めずらしく朝から風。でも方向的には「エルミラージ・ターボ」と呼ばれている追い風。いいぞ！

コースのコンディションも良さげ。前回はボコボコだったからなあ。

ドライバーズ・ミーティング。開幕戦に比べて人も少なめ。

いよいよ木村氏の順番。

reunited on the return road. result wasn't great. lost speed before he got it to the 4th gear...

リターン・ロードで再会。結果は残念賞。速く走りたいのに遅くなっちゃうという・・・4速に入れる前に失速したらしい。むずい。

 but this smile :D

でもこの笑顔。

休む間もなく気持ちを切り替え、2走目に向けて対策と準備を始める木村氏。

with 25, 30 mph winds, we caught on windhold for 2 hours right after shinya's first pass.

木村氏の1走目の直後、風速50km近くの風が吹き荒れ2時間ほどレース中断。

after 2 hours and half, the race was officially called off.　bummer!

2時間半後、風が一向に止まないのでレースの中止が発表された。チーン。

back to the workshop. the race result left shinya feeling frustrated so he was trying to brush away the cobwebs :D
